I suffered a heart attack and was promptly attended by paramedics and immediately ambulanced to Hairmyres Catheter Lab for a PCI. Procedure was amazingly swift and despite the fear of the unknown, all that was happening was being explained.
My family and I were told all about the procedure by surgical and nursing staff as I was admitted to the CCU.
Within 24 hours I was transferred to Wishaw General to be closer to home. My eyes were opened by the quality of nursing care which appeared to stem from excellent leadership on the ward and teamwork. The key ingredient for me, having never had a heart attack, was the nurse/patient communication, provision of relevant information and response to queries and concerns. On the planned day of discharge, unlike recent experience elsewhere, everything went according to plan, morning scan, consultant review, meet the rehab nurse and medication from pharmacy.
no unnecessary delays, no patient anxieties.
What could be improved? Newspaper deliver to the ward, of all the meals, lunch was mediocre, provision of tv facilities
