"EPU and Day Procedures Departments"

About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital

I went to Stoke Mandeville Hospital for my 11 week ultrasound only to discover that I had had a missed miscarriage at 6 weeks. Obviously I was devastated. The sonography explained that I would need to go back a week later to have an early pregnancy scan as the foetus was too small for them to make a conclusion. All I can say is that the staff in the EPU were absolutely lovely! They were extremely sympathetic to my cause and gently explained the next steps to me. One nurse in particular, I didn't catch her name, was so lovely and held my hand as she guided me to a quiet room. I opted for the surgical procedure called an ERPC and was booked an appointment for 3 days time at my request. When I returned to hospital today I went to the Day Procedures department and again I cannot fault the staff! The only bug bear I had was that when I went to use the public toilets near the canteen when I arrived they were in a horrible state, which took me by surprise considering the cleanliness of the rest of the hospital. Anyway back to the day procedures. I was seen almost immediately by several nurses, doctors and an anesthetiologist who were all delightful. They explained really clearly the risks of the operation and made it really clear to my partner when he would have to leave and exactly how soon he could come back. I was taken to surgery very quickly, and again was met with extremely patient and friendly staff. I had told them I was scared of needles so they were very gentle with putting in the cannula. All in all, considering what I went in for, I cannot fault the staff at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. They were beyond lovely and when we do get pregnant again I will definitely be going back!!
