I've been here last year and it didn't look as bad as everyone told me, I had been warned by a Student Uni rep to give all fake details though which I felt bad about and thought that she might have been a bit conspiratorial... but I figured I could level with them after the event if it felt right. I 'needed to be seen' but I wasn't sure if I was seen by a physician - his badge was down by his zipper and the slang language eroded what confidence I had. I just didn't feel trust and wanted to walk out. I declined any prodding.
So I booked in here because it was purportedly confidential but I felt like I was being interrogated by lawyers - they were definitely not being totally honest with me.
Last week I told my flatmates about my visit (one of them had been) and he showed me a campaign leaflet about Newcroft Street Clinic and the health service in Newcastle which had been actually addressed to him at our flat. (I was glad I gave fake details). This was my first experience and I was probably naive in my expectations - everyone I have spoken to at Uni seem to know about this. I really want to complain but I can't do that without going 'on the books'. I wish I was told about the information ownership and sharing before hand - lot of my friends won't even go to doctors because of this.
Since then we've all just used 'google' and bought whatever the stores have on the shelves and, to my mind, I think that is realistically what the NHS want. Something is very wrong over here and everyone other than me knows about it. Why bring a stack of paper records in to a confidential consult?
"Bizzarre atmosphere."
