I sought counselling services with the Let's Talk service in Hull after the breakdown of a relationship, and after years of depressive and anxiety episodes.
I was referred by my GP upon my request for some counselling (he also should get a thumbs up for being an excellent GP who really takes the time to listen, values a patient's opinion and takes a holistic view of a patient's well-being).
Let's Talk contacted me within two weeks of referral with an appointment for an assessment, and the psychologist who saw me made me feel like a fellow human - being, an equal - something that is so important when dealing with mental well-being, and something I have felt right throughout my treatment with this service. We agreed a suitable therapy type and I had my first appointment with a final year student relational counsellor shortly afterwards. The therapy itself was fantastic. I'm aware that much of the outcome depends on your own input and how suitable your relationship with your therapist is, but I found the environment, the warm personality and the high level of ability in my counsellor made the entire experience one that I'd go so far as to say has changed my life.
I have recently ended my counselling at this service because (largely as a result of the incredibly positive experience I have encountered in this service) I decided to take up a foundation course in counselling and shall now, myself, be a counselling student.
"The therapy itself was fantastic"
