I had to visit the Urgent Care Centre (UCC) from out of Borough for a badly sprained ankle that wasn't getting any better after one week. Having seen the long waiting times at my local (Essex) A&E and as i work locally in Bexleyheath, I attended the UCC. No waiting other than for a few minutes to be seen by a warm and welcoming Doctor who had a comfortable informality that made the assessment productive and pleasant. I was referred for an X-Ray which was a short stroll across the car park however despite being 'walking wounded' was told I had to stand outside the door for 10 minutes as the service did not open until 8.30am. Poor customer service here from a less than welcoming radiographer who appeared to be less than interested in my needs - a seat in the stark depressing waiting room rather than standing on a bad ankle would have been both appropriate and appreciated. X-Ray done (very functionally rather than with empathy by the same radiographer), i was again seen in a very few minutes by the Doctor who had to 'pop next door' to assess the X-Ray as it appears that the two serviecs are not able to electronically communicate. It owudl have been both informative and appropriate to have had the chance to see the X-Rays themselves - an issue which needs to be addressed so that they are available in the consulting rooms. All in all an excellent service from the Urgent Care Centre but a 'can do a lot better' from the X-Ray department and team.
