Initially on my dad's admission we were very pleased with the co-operation of all staff and we felt the experience was very good overall. However, at weekend things deteriorated. We arrived at visiting on Sat 24th Jan 2015 to find dad in his underpants and no pyjama bottoms so his dignity was not intact. Also, as a 3rd day post op hip replacement patient, he should have been assessed by the physio for that day, however there was no visit at that time. My husband approached a male nurse who was very defensive and aggressive when my husband asked very reasonable questions. The said nurse then started to patronise us telling us that dad was not able to walk without 2 due to his surgery which was counter to what the ward sister had told us just the day before. I informed the nurse I was a nurse and that at 3days post op I would have expected dad to have been supervised with one. 10 mins later we had physio attend who did indeed say dad was supervision with one and they walked him on a Zimmer with good results. On Sun 25th jan we were rung at 10am to say dad would be transferred to Alnwick for rehab. That was at 10am and we were told a 4 hr window was expected. By 3.30pm dad was still on ward 9. we didn't really know what to expect and it had a huge impact stress wise on dad and us.
