I am really impressed by the maternity services at Calderdale Royal hospital. When I went into labour we went to the birth centre and were seen straight away by a lovely midwife. We had our own room where I could just relax whilst labour started getting more intense. When labour started properly we were moved into a bigger room which had a water pool facility. I was in there about 7 hours with the midwife letting my husband and I take the lead, but always there to offer help such as getting drinks, helping with back massage and so on.
Unfortunately labour didn't go to plan and I got moved up to the labour ward but when we got there a lovely midwife took the lead and helped deliver a healthy boy! We both got to do skin to skin which was great before I went down for surgery.
When in the labour ward whilst little one and I got to know each other, we had lots of support breast feeding and finally got there. The nurses were really helpful, from refreshments to helping with first toilet trips.
I had such a positive experience despite the fact my labour didn't quite go to plan. The staff and facilities were great. Thank you
The visiting hours could be improved.
