After waiting an hour for a midwife to turn up to drop in to complete a stretch and sweep, a very flustered but lovely midwife arrived at Sunbeam Childrens Centre.
She had no real explanation for the lateness except staff illness and didn't seem to appreciate my asking why it takes from 9am to 3pm to arrange cover or communicate the issue.
After consultation I was advised to take my bottom half off, in this tiny room, with the audience of midwife, student midwife and partner, no curtain, no table, no locking door and lay on a 3 seater leather sofa for the procedure, my partner had to ask for the sofa to be covered to minimise infection risk to be told it's fine we do these at home on your sofa! Maybe so but a grotty sofa in a children's centre room is very different, might I add with a big gap in the blind, as the midwife knelt down by the sofa to complete the procedure.
So although the midwife was lovely the standard of service in wakefield is appalling and we were shocked by the standards that seem to have become the norm.
There was no consideration of dignity or respect and cleanliness not high on the agenda.
