"Experiencing Asthma for the first time since childhood"

About: South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw

(as the patient),

I recently re-experienced Asthma, a condition I thought I had long left in my childhood. Not having experienced any form of attack since my teens I thought initially that I simply had an allergy last spring when the weather conditions were poor and other factors including pollen counts were very high. My symptoms were mainly having a terrible cough (for quite some time) but also tightness of the chest and some wheezing. Fearing maybe something more serious was afoot I reluctantly agreed to see my GP at the School Road practice.

I'm glad I did as rather than tell me I had something serious wrong it was immediately suggested that my Asthma had probably returned. I was given a steroid inhaler and I found in a matter of days my condition did improve dramatically.

I liked the fact I could get a repeat prescription without having to see the dr and that I have been asked to return to see for a review which is due about now.

I found my condition has been much improve particularly during the winter so I am sure to ensure I engage with my GP more in future and thank them for their help, its all so easy to obtain the right help.

Thank you for your feedback of your experience of receiving care for your returning asthma. It’s great to hear what is working well and that you have been encouraged to manage your asthma by attending regular reviews. This really helps us when planning for the future.

If you would like to keep up to date with how the CCG is using your feedback, you can do so here https://www.patientopinion.org.uk/blogposts/352/what-are-your-experiences-of-respiratory-care
