About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a parent/guardian),

GP requested ambulance with 2 hour slot for dispatch ...8 hours and 15 minutes later were still waiting. Scottish Ambulance Service, Scottish Government, we can and must do better.

Dear Iscot,

I'm very sorry to read that you waited so long for the ambulance. It must have been very distressing - especially as it looks like it was your child or someone you are caring for.

I'd really like to look at what happened and then come back to you to explain what happened. If you contact me, I can get the details that I need. We do sometimes have delays, but this just doesn't look right to me and I want to get to the bottom of it.

A year and half has passed, and my brother has had a further 6 admissions to hospital I am sad to report that when the GP has referred my brother to hospital and requested an ambulance we have still experienced long long delays in getting to hospital. He finds this very distressing, and of course there are knock on consequences. Arriving late at the Acute Receiving Unit, care and triage mean an uncomfortable an interrupted night, Delayed transfer to an appropriate ward.

On a more positive note, when there has been substantial risk, and my brother's carers have phoned 999 the response times have been very efficient.

Dear Iscot,

I am very sorry that you are still having problems getting your brother to hospital. It's really important to me that we get it right every time and I would again ask you to contact me on 0141 810 6101 so that I can look in to what is happening for you and for him so that he doesn't get distressed again. The last thing you should all be worrying about with hospital attendance is the journey.

It was really good to hear that when you have dialled 999 that we have been quick in our response. If you do contact me I can pass on your comment to the control room staff who have been involved with his care. They always appreciate good feedback and thank you for your kind comment.
