Today I had a Colonoscopy in the Elmstead Day Unit. Because of a bad experience at a different hospital I was absolutely terrified. Today was my second attempt to try to attend and actually have the procedure done. I am a strong person but before the first appointment I had a massive attack of fear. Something I have never experienced before. I needed to cancel the appointment. A second appointment was made and this time I managed to make it through the doors to the Day Unit. I was 'brave' right up to sitting by a bed talking to a nurse. The Ffear returned. I could not stop shaking. The response was wonderful. The kind/gentle care and support they gave me was sooo lovely and reassuring. Each time a different member of staff needed to do their part of the process I received the same response. With their help and support I managed to have the Colonoscopy. I felt no pain. I would have another one done tomorrow if I needed it but I would only go to Colchester Hospital. Thank you.
