"Smoking outside the hospital"

About: Royal Oldham Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

My husband was in hospital for almost one month and I visited every day in the morning (various times between 10am and 12), 3pm and 7pm visiting. I was appalled at the amount of patients and visitors smoking in the red marked area at the main entrance (designated as a smoke free zone as per the signs). It was so bad I used the covered entrance near A&E and was confronted by a patient walking down the covered entrance with a drip attached and Smoking! ! Yes there is signage advising No Smoking area. In the end I opted to use the covered entrance near the Christie which was smoke free.

I too have reported the smoking issues to reception who advised not a lot could be done and how did I expect the Hospital to manage the situation. I suggested they might manage it better than it is presently..

I left a message for the Site Services Manager via information provided by reception, to contact me. I am still awaiting any response.

I wanted to raise the above and advise of my disappointment regard the smoking, seemingly being allowed on the Oldham site and in addition the amount of discarded cigarette ends in the grounds (in the main at the front of the hospital) all of which does not provide a positive impression for the Hospital.
