What I liked
I went to the lister for a pre-operative assessment as i'm due for surgery in october. upon arrival staff were welcoming an freindly. However, the nurse who carried out my assessment was new to the hospital, was unable to answer any of my questions, an had no idea about procedure. Due to the nature of my surgery i was required to have photos taken, however i was not forewarned abot these and when informed that it would be a male photographer i instantly became distressed and unwilling to give my permission. The nurse was extremely unsypatheic towards me and was given no other options (personally i would have perfered having the photos done on the day of my operation) as these have now cause me great distress as to the fact my feelings and opinions were not taken in to consdieration. i hope upon my return to the lister in ocotber i will have a completely different expereince, which i will be able to highly recommend.
What could be improved
communication between departments and other hospitals / loss of old or previous notes. also having a trained nurse who was able to carry out everything my assessment required without having to see four or five as my nurse was unable to carry out the requirements.
Anything else?
i asked if it was possible to see the wards which i would be staying on during my time in the lister and the staff nurses on both wards were very accomdating and took their time with me to explain where i would stay and about how they would help me in my aftercare with dressings and future procedures.
