"Blood Tests"

About: Orpington Hospital

Attended the Phlebotomy department for a weekly warfarin check to be told by nurse 'take a ticket' brisquely and abruptly. Waiting time was approximately an hour. At no time was we told that there is no warfarin clinic at Orpington Hospital as they do not do the prick test as do the other Kings College Hospitals.(?) - bizarre and that was why we needed to wait for a blood test. My mother was not prepared for this. The 'staff' spent more time discussing the news on the radio, laughing and joking and working out who was going to what lunch than work through the patients waiting. To top it all when the nurse asked to confirm my mothers date of birth she didn't notice that it didn't correspond with the date on the accompanying form and we have just received a telephone call to tell us we have to go back on Monday to do another blood test as the birth date was wrong. I would suggest that a senior nurse or Sister be put in to oversee this department or alternatively get nurses that want to work. I have great respect for the nurses working in the NHS, but this lot are shameful.

Please accept my apologies for not responding to your feedback in a timely way. I am very sorry to hear about your experience of the phlebotomy department at Orpington Hospital and will pass your comments onto the relevant manager, in particular about the poor staff attitude that you experienced.
