It can be difficult at home. I don’t get sleeping. My husband has dementia and often gets up in the middle of the night to put his clothes on to go to work. I need to get up and talk him out of it.
We have carers coming four times a day to help us both. Most of them are good but sometimes you get ones who aren’t. The service really makes a difference to us. I also have good family support, with people around who take me out.
The carers in the morning are good. The best carers are the ones who properly clean the kitchen, some of them don’t clean the surfaces.
Some of the carers are in too big a rush, they are too quick in and out of the house. The carers can also be called away to help somewhere else (if someone who needs help is a double). When this happens a different carer will come to us but we don’t know who is coming.
The carers at home are a good support. I am grateful for what we have.
