The charges are far over the top and have been for some time.
I can understand a small parking fee but not the present ones that are hurting the sick and families even more at a time when they need help and not being held up and stolen from.
I saw this response to an earlier story.

Money accruing from parking charges is used to fund the upkeep and security of the parking facilities; any excess is channelled back into patient care. The charge for disabled parking is capped.

I feel that saying it goes back into security is not true.
There should be CCTV being monitored by enough persons to watch all parking and watch that the persons parking are going into the hospital and not to the bus stop inside or outside the grounds and leaving cars parked all day while going to work or shopping and not actually having any connection to the hospital.
I have seen this happen a number of times myself and these persons should be fined heavily for taking up spaces meant for hospital visitors and persons attending appointments.
The car parks get totally full many time that it is very hard to find a space and there is no way that all the drivers are in the hospital. The car parks hold 10 times what they used to and should not be full at any time.
The barriers seem a bad idea because a great deal of people cannot turn and reach out of car windows due to illness and may have to climb out of the car to get a ticket and hopefully make it back to seat before barrier goes down again..
