"Compassionate Care Ward 12 Ninewells Dundee"

About: Ninewells Hospital

(as a relative),

In the last 2 weeks, my 82 year old Aunt was transferred via Ward 7 from Kirkcaldy hospital with a DVT (and complications) and the correct decision was made to give her End of Life Care. I was unable to visit but her immediate family including my mum (her sister) and dad were able to spend time with her in her last few days.

It was a great relief to know that she was being cared for so gently; my mum was a nurse many years ago and I am a hospice nurse, so knowing that our loved one was being looked after so kindly was extremely reassuring for my family.

My mum and dad remember Paul, a Health Care Assistant, particularly and appreciated his concern for their well being.

They also talked about a very cheerful and lively nurse who energised the room with her great attitude - and even raised a smile on my Aunt's lips. Equally, my mum was touched deeply when she witnessed the expert and compassionate care given to my Aunt when carefully repositioning her and tending to her pressure areas; in fact retelling this has brought tears to her eyes.

She also mentioned the housekeeping team and the tea trolley staff most favourably. I was pleased to hear of the palliative team's attendance and my dad referred to your staff as 'wonderful'.

You all did a great job. Thank you so much.
