I was taken in to hospital with post lumbar puncture headaches, which started on the Tuesday and I was referred to hospital Friday and left the following Tuesday. My symptoms were light intolerance, pressure head ache, I could not sit up, and worn eye mask. It was terrible.
On the Friday night, I never needed to ask for any meds, I was looked after. Saturday day the doc was sending me home, saying it would get better in a couple of days (I think that he had not read my file properly).
For the rest of the duration, I had to wait up to 12 hours just for codeine and Paracetamol. When morphine was prescribed, it took 24 hours before I actually got it. During my stay, they ever changed the sheets. They never brought me water so I could wash. One night, most staff was watching a football match, and I could hear bottles clanking. This was till about 1am. It sounded like a pub on match day.
During my stay, a nurse lost my epilepsy tablets. Then the next night put a lady with dementia next to me screaming and kicking off all night. They also allowed other patients over 15 visitors at once.
Eventually, I was operated on. After, they took me to recovery room, where they told me to be quiet, relax and ideally sleep, but they were having a Christmas party in the recovery room. This is only a brief account, but from my experience I think that Bolton is one of the worst hospitals in the UK.
