In 2009 I went for a blood test at The Laurels, Haringey. You have to take a ticket and then wait for your number to be called. There is no prioritisation for people who are too ill to wait - I had pneumonia and there were elderly people and mothers with very small children waiting.
I was finally called after waiting two and a half hours.
I sat down in front of the nurse, who put on surgical gloves, put the needle in my arm and then answered her mobile phone!
While taking my blood she chatted away to her friend, and paid no attention to my protestations. I couldn't believe that, not only could she be so rude and unprofessional (as a patient I had turned my own mobile off at the door), but also the risk of cross contamination of using her mobile while taking blood.
I wanted to complain, but could find no complaints procedure for the centre or NHS Haringey at all. I'm grateful to this website for giving me the opportunity to file my complaint.
