I went for a chest X-ray at St Ann's Hospital, Haringey, in October 2009. I had pneumonia and had travelled by public transport as I don't drive, and was very unwell.
I had been given a form at an earlier date that said the department was open from 9am to 4pm. When I arrived it was just before 1pm. The receptionist was locking the doors and told me that all the staff had gone for lunch and nobody was available until 2pm.
I pointed out that no lunch break was mentioned on the opening hours on the form. The receptionist simply shrugged and said the forms needed re-printing.
I had to wait in the open air outside the department for an hour while I waited for the staff to return from lunch, hardly an ideal situation for someone suffering from pneumonia.
