"My cousin who was terminally ill with cancer"

About: St Andrews Community Hospital

(as a relative),

My cousin was admitted to Ward 2 of St Andrews Community Hospital in the latter stages of her cancer. The care and kindness from the staff could not have been bettered. On the evening that she died they made sure that she was looking her best and wrapped her legs in a purple blanket which was my cousin's favourite colour. The staff cared for both my cousin and myself that night with such kindness but that had been the way throughout her three or so weeks in the hospital. Myself and friends visited at all sort of hours and always got a pleasant welcome. The time and patience shown to my cousin was exemplary.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your cousin's care at the end of life. I was sorry to hear of your loss and offer my sincere condolences. I was really pleased to hear that you felt your cousin's care was of an exemplary standard and that the staff also cared for you at that difficult time. Kindness and compassion are so important and the attention to detail you describe gives a real sense of staff fully understanding the importance of an individualised approach. I will be delighted to share your post with the staff in Ward 2 and with the Management Team, who I know will greatly appreciate this.
