"Eye Department, Raigmore Hospital"

About: Raigmore Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

I have been attending Raigmore Eye Department for approximately 8 months for a persistent eye problem. However the journey I have had to go emotionally due to sudden and unexpected pained loss of vision has been eased by the consultants I have met, Dr Knight, Dr Thorfinn and Dr Barras. They are a rare breed in doctors who have the ability to talk to patients and have the strength to admit when they need to discuss matters with other colleagues due to limited knowledge and they take on board what the patient says. These qualities have given me confidence in the treatment I have been given. Since Dr Barras agreed to be the main person responsible for my care, he and his secretary (Denise) and Rachel (clerical assistant) have dealt with all my queries really quickly and pleasantly. If they said they would get back to me they did so and have ensured I have been kept in the loop so to speak.

I have had to have a couple of emergency admissions from the clinic this year and it is evident from the staff I have met in the Eye Clinic and on Ward 3b that they are highly skilled people who care about the individuals they work with despite their heavy workloads and pressure from frightened and sometimes frustrated people. Thank you.
