"Helpful and supportive staff, but poor communication and long wait for admission at Weston Park"

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital

(as the patient),

I had a urinary tract infection resulting from a low white blood cell count after chemotherapy. I went to Weston Park Hospital, staying on ward 2. The best thing about my treatment was the staff. They were all very helpful and supportive once I was admitted. They did all they could to help me feel comfortable.

Initially, the communication could have been better. I thought I was going for treatment for the UT infection - possibly an anti-biotic, not realising that the hospital's concern was my very low blood count. I wish that someone had said this to me at the beginning.

I was also displeased that I arrived at the hospital at a bout 11.30am on Sunday morning, but had to wait until just before 6pm before they told me I would have to stay in.
