My daughter was a patient in the adolescent unit for 3 long months. The nursing sister and physio staff went out of their way to help her - indeed over and above the call of duty. The only down side was that she had several items stolen or misplaced while she was there. As she has an acquired brain injury, the loss of two of the items meant she was inconsolable on occasion. It wasn't the fault of the staff, they are not used to having long term patients who need their personal items. The bad was one nurse who had absolutely no patience with what my daughter required and needed to be removed from her care and another one who said she shouldn't bring anything important into hospital. Not great advice for a parent whose child is in hospital for a long stay. I guess I had been spoiled by very attentive and alert staff at GOSH! I wish that adolescent units were alert to the fact that teenagers are still children!
