I attended the QEUH for a medical appointment. Upon arrival, I followed the signage for the p2 patient multistorey car park. I was stopped by a parking attendant in a high vis jacket who asked if I was a staff member. I said I had an appointment and he immediately asked again if I was a staff member. I stated again I was attending for an appointment and he demanded to know where. I told him this was none of his business and he shouted at me that it was his business actually and that he controlled who got to park there. I then drove on as I felt intimidated as a young female and I felt that he was shouting in my face at my drivers window, at which point he continued to shout after me.
I was attending today for a very stressful appointment and was left feeling upset and intimidated by this encounter. This is not the first time I have experienced such an encounter as I am a regular patient at QEUH attending around once per week. I think the way these car parks are operated is appalling as not only is the signage dreadful but patients are being intimidated by these awful, rude car park attendants. I dread to think how an elderly patient would feel being subjected to this on arrival.
