"An unpleasant procedure made bearable"

About: Harefield Hospital / Cardiology

I was admitted as a day patient to Cherry Tree Ward for a Trans - Esophagal Echo Cardio, which entails a tube being passed down the gullet. Despite sedation it remains a very unpleasant experience. However, the ward stsff were a credit to the Trust. They were, without exception, warm, friendly and.professional, making my stay in the ward as pleasant as it could be. In the Echo department the Consultant and the deputy coordinator were totally professional and thoroughly understood and eased my nervousness . They explained everything in detail and conducted the procedure expertly and with the minimum of fuss. They warned me of the possibility of unpleasant side effects, none of which were triggered, due to the competent way they did their job. I had been dreading it. Afterwards I wondered why! The whole team are an example of what our NHS at its best can be like.

Dear George,

Thank you for telling us how impressed you were with your treatment. We are fortunate to have some of the country’s leading cardiologists and specialist nurses, and all our staff are committed to providing our patients with the very highest standards of care. Our clinical teams understand that making sure patients are fully informed and involved in decisions about their care can make all the difference to their time spent in hospital. We are sure that everyone on the Cherry Tree ward and in the Echocardiography department will be pleased to hear how much you valued their approach. Thanks again and we wish all the best for the future.
