"Cataract surgery"

About: Royal Stoke University Hospital / Ophthalmology

I recently had my first experience of cataract surgery and would like to than the staff at the pre assessment clinic and the Poswillow Cataract Suite for their expertise and care.

I have two comments to make which would improve the patient experience for day patients having the operation under local anaesthetic.

Firstly at pre assessment patients should be informed they should expect to spend the whole morning/afternoon at the cataract suite.

I was not informed of this, was admitted at 12:30 with several other patients and my husband rang at about 4 pm to enquire about me, I had not had the surgery at that point as I was patient number 5 on an operating list of 6. Secondly please update the post operative cataract instructions.

The instructions state the suite is open Monday to Friday and give the phone number to ring in case of any problems which I did on a Wednesday, the day it's closed.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment on your recent experience of the Poswillo Suite, and thank you for your suggestions for improvement. I will share your feedback with the Poswillo Team and work with them to implement your recommendations.

With best wishes

Rebecca Smith, Quality Improvement Facilitator: Patient Experience.
