About: King George Hospital

I attended for a test for a blood match, having been advised by a doctor that the nurse would tell me everything that would happen. They didn't.

As a first time attendee no-one said to bring my own food and drink.

I was given an out of date sandwich, and citrus fruit and drink which I am not allowed due to internal bleeding, but no-one bothered to check what I could and could not eat, so all I managed was a yogurt.

I was in a wheelchair but no-one brought me a jug of water, I had to get out of their plastic chair and get my own.

I explained I needed three litres a day and no-one explained I could have side effects, which resulted in my having to call 111 and try to get a doctor.

The nurses checked BP, pulse and blood oxygen, but that was all. No checks on general health or discomfort.

I had to ask for a pillow to ease the pain from the bone mets being forced to sit in what I had been assured by the nurse was a comfortable chair.

I arrived in good time, but waited two hours for my blood to arrive. This is apparently a common experience.

The toilet was a walk down the corridor, and with a ileostomy and a catheter I had to get myself out of the chair with no support from the nurses, they did not even ask if I had any complex needs, I was just connected to the drip and abandoned.

Their job was done.

At the end the nurse said I could leave and they said a doctor would monitor my blood, but I have never heard of this particular doctor, the name was totally unfamiliar to me, I have no idea who they are, when I will be seen, or where I will be seen.

Totally disappointed by the lack of care and support.
