Had endoscope as had severe foul smelling watery diarrhoea, abdomen pains too tender to touch! Nausea, joint paints, headaches basically the mill since September 2016. My mum, partner & little boy has been the same also but just the foul smelling diarrhoea. I also was diagnosed 2 years ago after a colonoscopy for DD & narrowing had 4 polyps taken to analyse but tests came back was not superficial enough to be analysed...never once had a flare up with DD.
yet I got Pneumonia 5 months ago had 3 courses of Antibiotics since then the above symptoms started.. So my GI sent me for the Sigmoidoscopy bare in mind I was already in pain with my stomach - but this was far the worst experience up to date...
I asked for sedation which I was prepped for ready... Which I asked for, when they was begin to start - but wasn't given. Pleaded again into the procedure... Still not given. Put it this way give me child birth any day. I thought the colonoscopy was unpleasant but the sigmoidoscopy was like being tortured! !
then to ask do I want a break? yet then carry on! !
All as I can say is if a patient says they are in pain & want sedation then should be given. As no one can know the tortuous pain someone is going through unless they are feeling it. Enough said as don't want to go more into it.. The nurses there are the only ones with empathy.
"Sigmoidoscopy was extremely painful"
