"Marina Dalglish Unit at Aintree Hospital"

I attended the Unit for chemotherapy to treat breast cancer and overall my experience was positive. I received excellent treatment and care, staff were positive, friendly, attentive and professional. I received complementary therapy treatments during my visits to the Unit and also attended the Hope Course there.

However there was one problem - lack of gowns when having treatment. When starting a course of chemotherapy at the Unit you are supposed to be issued with a gown that you keep for the whole course of treatment and return at the end. When I arrived for the first appointment, the nurse apologetically told me that they didn't have any gowns but offered some blue roll so I would have some dignity.

At the second appointment I was told the same (no gowns) but the nurse was very blasé about the situation, told me in a way that it is a usual occurrence for them, but didn't take into account the effect it would have on me. I wasn't offered any blue roll to cover up with. On my third visit I was issued with a gown.

The issue with gowns and the way I was treated on my second visit by the nurse detracted from the overall, excellent care I received, however I would recommend the Unit and great service they provide.
