"Day care unit at Queen's hospital Romford"

About: Queen's Hospital (Romford)

(as the patient),

From my initial consultation to being advised to have a liver biopsy, the service I have received has been wonderful. Approx 2 weeks wait to be seen for a pre-assessment by the staff nurse, who was kind and caring, to being admitted a week later as a day patient. Staff put me at ease, the facilities were clean, parking was good (9.15am). The technique used for my procedure was explained clearly and any foreseeable problems explained. Did I need to ask any questions? no! it had been covered.

After the procedure I was taken to the day care unit/ward, which was bright, clean and well staffed, again staff were caring, friendly and checked that I was ok very regularly. I was even given my own lunch box (sandwiches-tasty and wholesome, with orange juice and slice of cake) and I could request tea/coffee when I wanted, but was asked regularly anyway.

Aftercare: I was contacted today at home to check on my well-being, I was told this would happen before I left the ward, but is is good to know that it was followed through.

I have had other incidents of going to the hospital since it opened, with my son's broken bones! each appointment we have been seen near to our appointment time. Ok there may have been a delay of half hour but I have been seen privately at private hospitals where I have had to wait over an hour and a half to see the consultant! This hospital in my opinion is doing a good job, despite adverse publicity and initial teething problems.

Well done!
