I have attended Chorley Hospital today for an x-ray and made the following observations:-
1. Patients are still smoking outside the outpatients entrance which is inappropriate in a hospital environment. The smoke drifts in through the doors and down the corridor towards x-ray and outpatients.
2. As I was coming for my x-ray during my lunchtime I tried to obtain a sandwich from Chorley's restaurant but was told that the fresh sandwich making service finished at 1.30pm. By my watch and the clock in the restaurant it had just gone 1.32pm. I could have bought a sandwich from the fridge but just thought that for 2 minutes over the time it was a bit uncalled for.
3. As I was walking down the corridor towards X-ray I encountered a kitchen porter pushing a trolley with trays in from one of the wards. As he pushed merrily along with one hand, he was texting away on his mobile phone with the other. Not entirely professional conduct in my opinion.
4. On reporting early to x-ray for my appointment, I was dealt with promptly and was happy with the service that I received. One criticism would be that I felt the young radiographer was not the most personable of individuals and did not seem to have an abundance of people skills. I found her manner abrupt and regimental.
I hope that the Trust take into account patient comments to try to make a difference to patient's experiences of their visit to hospital.
