"Chemotherapy was a good laugh!"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / General Medicine (Wards 5 & 8)

(as the patient),

So obviously cancer treatment isn't fun. It's a serious business and it's unpleasant for the patient, family and friends. However, as part of my treatment, I encountered a little ray of sunshine in the strangest of places.

I was really nervous about going for chemotherapy at the medical day unit in Wishaw. The fear of the unknown. But there was no need for me to be afraid. Gerry, Angela, Helen and the rest of the team really cheered me up. Their upbeat personalities and laughs are infectious! I found myself smiling and laughing through treatment.

I've finished now and it's weird to say this, but I'll really miss them. I mean obviously I never want to go back, but it's good to know that anyone else going to Wishaw for treatment will get the same amazing care that I got.

Dear Margo

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experiences of attending the Medical Day Bed Unit at Wishaw General Hospital. Attending for chemotherapy is often an anxious time and associated with the fear of the unknown as you say. I am pleased to learn of your positive experience and in particular of the "little ray of sunshine" you encountered while attending the unit at what is often a difficult time. I will ensure that this is shared with Gerry, Helen, Angela and the team. It is always heartening to receive such positive feedback regarding our staff and the impact they have on peoples' experiences of care in the unit. Thank you once again.

Best wishes

Mhairi
