"I want to leave to be closer to my family"

When I first came here, I was told by doctors that I would have use of computers and order clothes on-line. I have had a doctor's appointment cancelled today and I am in pain.

The next appointment is next week. I feel that I am deteriorating here and all they are interested in is giving me my meds. I look forward to getting off the ward to get some fresh air.

I want to leave to be closer to my family. I have been here longer than some other patients and I do not understand why they have got more leave than me. Other patients are rude to staff, but they still get leave and I don't think this is fair as I have done nothing wrong.

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us. In relation to the use of computers and ordering clothes on line, I would urge you discuss this with your Care Coordinator and I am sure that they will be able to help you in gaining access to the computer and will also advise you on how we can help in ordering new clothes. Many of our ladies order clothes both on-line and via catalogues so I am sure we can assist you in doing the same. I am sorry to hear that your Doctors appointment was cancelled today and that you are in pain, again I would urge you to discuss this with the staff and Drs on your ward.


It is always difficult when we are far away from our families and friends and I can totally understand that you want to be closer to your family. Every patient here at St Andrews is treated individually so, although it may be difficult, you shouldn't compare yourself to others and you if you are struggling to understand your leave you should ask the question of your Multi Disciplinary Team as I am sure they will be able to help you understand your graded leave programme.
