"Car Parking for the Minor Injuries Unit"

About: Abingdon Community Hospital

Unfortunately today I had to bring my son to the Minor Injuries Unit after being told to do so by the GP.

When we arrived I found that the Car Parking situation had been made worse by the introduction of Pay and Display. The machines only accept coins and no notes or cards accepted. The wait is up at 2 and a half hours, so I had to leave my teenager while going off site to find change to put in the ticket machine.

Why on earth has this ridiculous system been brought in? There is no way of telling how long that you may have to wait. There is no way of getting coins on the hospital site to keep feeding the parking machine. This is extremely frustrating! If you are going to penalise patients for parking, at least get machines that take notes and cards, plus give you the option of taking a card that you can then put in a machine at the end of your stay to pay what you owe. A very unwelcome greeting at a stressful time.

Dear Anon,

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback relating to your experience of the parking machines at Abingdon Community Hospital. I wanted to thank you for bringing this feedback to our attention about the parking machines not having facilities to receive payments via notes and card. I will share this feedback with the Trust's Estates and Facilities team and I apologise for this adding stress to your already stressful visit.

If you wish to discuss anything in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact PALS (Patient Advice & Liaison Service) on 0800 328 7971.

Kind regards

Sarah Woods

PALS Officer
