As I suspect many of those propelled to leave reviews do so for bad reasons, not good, I wanted to give an honest and positive review of the Homerton Hospital Day Surgery Centre.
My myomectomy and laparoscopy started out very rocky, and was a difficult experience -- but the kindness and warmth of staff, from nurses to surgeons, made a potentially unbearable experience a much better one. I can't thank them enough for their care.
My surgery was originally scheduled for two Thursdays ago in the Surgical Centre, but after waiting all day in a gown unable to eat or drink, I was told it needed to be rescheduled due to the operation before me taking much longer than expected. This could have ended quite horribly, but as promised by staff, Homerton bookers slotted me in for a week later, the Thursday after, and I was the first surgery that day in the Day Surgery Centre.
On the day of the surgery, myself and my family were blown away by the kindness and good nature of the nursing team -- especially the head nurse who cared for all of us with such professionalism and warmth. From anaesthetists to surgeons to nurses, I felt lucky to be cared for by such a good team. I would like to thank the NHS from the bottom of my heart for making the experience of surgery much less traumatising than it could have been.
The hard work and sacrifices of your staff in the face of continued funding cuts is heroic, and I would like to commend all involved in the Day Surgery Centre for their efforts to make us comfortable when we are there. It makes a massive difference for each of us.
