"Ward 7a Southmead Hospital"

About: Southmead Hospital

I would like to thank everyone on Ward 7a and all the Stroke Services staff for the incredible level of care I received having suffered a Stroke in August 2016. From admission through A&E to the Early Discharge Team, from consultant to housekeeping I have nothing but amazing things to say about the department who looked after me and reassured me and my family during an incredibly difficult and stressful time. As a 41 year old I never expected a Stroke to strike, and the investigations into the cause were both comprehensive and fully explained. The nursing staff were nothing short of outstanding with nothing ever too much trouble. Every member of staff seemed to know each patient by name and offered reassurance to all concerned (special mention must go to one member of staff for this). I was admitted in the very early hours of Friday morning and received treatment from occupational health, physiotherapy and speech and language therapy by the evening of Friday in between scans, blood tests and investigations etc. Thanks also must go to the early discharge Team who visited me at home once I was released from hospital. They not only visited every day for 5-6 weeks, they accommodated and matched my own desire to recover by taking me swimming, walking and pushing me both physically and mentally to achieve my goal. I have subsequently made a pretty full recovery and can honestly say I don't think this would have been possible without the care and attention of all concerned. Huge thanks and gratitude must go to Stroke Services. I am in awe of you all. Thanks so much Jonny Dodd

Dear Mr Dodd,

Thank you for your very kind comments and feedback which has been shared with teams involved with your care.

It is heartening to read that the care you received in hospital after your stroke was so good, which as you have said was a very difficult and stressful time for you and your family.

It is also good to know that the quality of care you received in hospital continued after your discharge with the support of the Discharge Team, in order to help with your recovery .

Thank you for providing this feedback, and please accept our very best wishes to you and your family for your continuing recovery.

Yours sincerely, Sue Needs, Deputy Advice & Complaints Team Manager
