"Everyone was truly amazing"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I fell off my bike on Friday and broke my hip. The ambulance came and they were really reassuring and took me very gently to A&E at hairmyres. The staff in A&E were very professional and supportive. They were also very funny which made everything easier, the doctor who told me I might need a hip replacement was so nice and funny and had such a lovely smile that it made it seem less daunting.

Dr Grant was also very supportive and dedicated and did my surgery the next day, luckily I didn’t need a hip replacement.

I like my appetite and was impressed with the food, I must be one of the few people that enjoy hospital food. The lady that brought the food was so nice, and one day she asked which of three toppings I would like on my jacket potato, and I thought she meant I could have all three, not just one, but I was allowed to have all three which I thought was great. My only suggestion is that it would be nice to have a little more variety on the menu for people that have to stay in hospital for longer, for example some fresh fruit would be nice for example a banana for breakfast, it wouldn’t be a big change but it would be a nice small change to make things more varied and healthy.

I left hospital feeling very impressed by the care, compassion and humour throughout my experience, I felt supported the whole way through, from the paramedics, to the doctors and nurses, to the porters and the catering staff, everyone was truly amazing.

Dear polarisjp66

Thank you very much for your great feedback, it's lovely for the staff to receive this, and I'll ensure that your comments are passed on to the teams.

I shall also pass on your comments in relation to the food and suggestions regarding the variety.

I wish you well with your recovery and hope you shall be back on your bike soon.

Regards

Gordon

Dear polarisjp66

I was really sorry to hear about your recent bike accident. Being injured then having to travel in an ambulance and stay in hospital can be a really scary experience. Therefore, I was glad to hear about the reassuring care you received from the ambulance crew and gentle journey to Hairmyres Hospital as well as the professional and 'funny' care that you received from the hospital staff.

I do hope that you are recovering well and like Gordon, I hope that you are back on your bike soon.

Thank you so much for sharing and take care.

Martin.
