"Osler Ward"

About: Basildon University Hospital / Accident and emergency

Our 94 year old father was taken by ambulance as an emergency on Friday 30th June, 2017 at about 8am, his blood pressure was extremely low 94/45 and with breathing problems.

Following an xray in A & E we were told there was a shadow on his chest and he needed a CT scan.

We were told that he was 5th on the list for the scan.

However late in the evening a bed was found in Osler Ward.

It is now Wednesday and he has deteriorated since being in there and he is still awaiting the scan.

We have been told everyday 'it may be today', it is now Wednesday, 6 days following his admittance and we were told today that the patients put on the 'computer' list for scans last Friday may be done this Friday.

Unfortunately we were also told that he wasn't added to the 'computer' list until Monday!

It is totally unacceptable.

Our father is not your average 94 year old, he cooks his own meals, goes shopping on his own, he is totally independent and to see him lying in that hospital bed is heartbreaking.

Since his admittance last Friday he is being fed and given tea and water, no medical treatment whatsoever.

Still no diagnosis.

He worked all his life, fought during World War II for his country, paid into the system all of his life and this is the treatment he receives.

No wonder he did not want to go to Basildon Hospital last Friday morning!! What is the point?

Somebody out there please tell us.
