Although the waiting list ran over the 18 weeks for my hysterectomy appointment, this hospital has been outstanding in every way.
I came in at 7 am yesterday morning for a full hysterectomy ( tubes, ovaries, womb, cervix and removal of endometriosis) by laparoscopy. The Surgical Admissions Lounge were efficient, thorough, and polite. The private room in SAL was dated in the old building but had everything needed. All checks were completed and discussions with Consultant and Aneasthetist were thorough and unrushed. I walked down to pre-op room, I was lucky enough to be first on the list, and when I let on that I was nervous they gave me a sedative and oxygen and I don't remember a thing until I came around in recovery.
I was moved to Hestercombe ward, all new private room and en-suite and the staff have been kind, helpful, attentive and I have received the best possible care.
The Gynae team came around in the afternoon to update me on the op and see how I was doing, and again this morning. I was given advice on pain relief and offered extra during the night when I was uncomfortable.
All staff have been very respectful helping me and checking wounds, retaining my modesty at all times, closing blinds and keeping my body covered.
My biggest discomfort has been ridding my body of the gas that's left behind after keyhole surgery but staff helped me to get moving and walking during the evening and today, and regular Windeze chewable tablets both helped enormously.
I have been walking comfortably, showered and dressed this morning and being discharged shortly.
If you are having this surgery at Taunton Musgrove, do not be nervous, you are in the best possible care.
My thanks go too everyone involved, you have been truly wonderful.
