My 87 year old dad has recently passed away following in total almost 6 weeks in hospital on wards 11 and ward 1 with repeated chest infections and pneumonia. The care my dad received on both wards was exceptional and he was always looked after very well. He was placed in a four bedder with a member of staff in all day and night to keep and eye on him and others as at times he was very confused due to his high levels of infection.
He was always in clean pyjamas and was shaved and bed bathed every day as well as the staff keeping a very close eye on his observations while he was poorly.
My dad was allowed to pass away with dignity and the staff showed great care towards him to maintain this throughout a very sad process as well as being very supportive of us as a family and allowed us time to be alone with him but remained discreetly in the background.
We have seen great improvements since we had a very bad experience on ward 1 a couple of years ago resulting in a formal complaint about his care, and ironically this is the ward he died on in the end.. but without a doubt things have definitely changed on there they were amazing as were all the staff on ward 11 and we can't thank them all enough.
"Brilliant care on ward 11 and ward 1"
