I gave birth to my first child in Barnet Birth Centre and was very impressed with the care we received. My waters broke at home at 5:15 pm and I arrived at 5:45 and spoke to the midwife. Despite regular contractions, was advised to go home rather than be examined fully (risk of infection and they wanted best outcome since I was only 39 weeks and was first baby) but I was allowed to take my time and turn on my TENS machine. Then the midwife realised that it might be established labour after all and had a look! I was 8 cm dilated so stayed in the birth Centre and my daughter was born soon thereafter (before 9 pm!). Midwives and other staff were kind reassuring and totally wonderful. I was very lucky to have a straight forward birth (needed a few stitches but all good otherwise) and now have a healthy beautiful 4 month old baby. Thanks
