Turned up with a deep-seated knee abscess that I'd not been able to treat properly whilst away on holiday. Was seen by a triage nurse immediately, gave a blood sample, was assessed by a Consultant, had an X-Ray and was reviewed by doctors from the orthopaedic team within one hour of arrival! Transferred to ward and intensive anti-biotic treatment started immediately.
For the next four days the care and attention I received was world class. The charge nurse and all the various staff around them were brilliant. They were all very attentive, helpful, available and cheerful. A particularly appealing feature was their consistent use of patients' names.
Communication between medical staff about my care and with me was excellent.
Any concerns I had initially were quickly dispelled and I felt confident with all the staff throughout.
The total professionalism of the assessment in A&E set the tone for the whole of my treatment and stay.
It would be great if the Government decided to treat our NHS staff as well as they have treated me
