I had to visit the new Leicester royal A&E back in August after the butterfly back of my earring had sunk into my ear lobe after I presume a long period of time without noticing. After the doctors and the peiricing place both telling me to visit A&E. I got there and the new A&E was a little difficult to find by car so I parked up and it was well sign posted on foot (although this could be an issue if it was a serious emergency). The place seemed clean and tidy, although I wasn't paying much attention with how ill and in pain I was feeling. Once I got there I expected the person I spoke to on reception to be rude and unhelpful (just because doctors receptionist etc usually are) but I was plesently surprised at how nice they were to me and how helpful and efficient they worked. And even joked with me, making me feel calm and at ease.
I didn't even have to have a consultation, they put me straight on the list to see a doctor and I was only waiting an hour and a half! Which, I think is no time for an A&E on a Saturday afternoon!! When I got to the medical room, the doctor was efficient and calmly talked me through the examinations and actions the doctor was going to take. The doctor then had to call in a nurse to hold my ear in the correct position to cut out the earring. The nurse was so comforting to me and really supportive, the nurse spoke to me all the way through and cleaned all the blood from my face etc before getting up to save me seeing it!! After it was out and my ear was glued and bandaged back up. I was spoke through all aftercare, prevention for next time and sent home with antibiotics to clear up the infection that the foreign body had caused. I could not have been happier with my visit (apart from the obvious fact that I had to have my ear cut open) but the A & E itself, was brilliant.
"Treated so well after getting my earring stuck..."
