"Children's Day Case Surgery at Derriford Hospital"

About: Derriford Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a relative),

I felt it was really important that I shared with you my experience of the care my son received during his visit for surgery at the Plym Day Case Unit , Derriford Hospital.

It was really really good..

The environment was clean, pleasant and welcoming.

The receptionist was attentive and friendly and the waiting area was well equipped for children and families

Moving through to the interview areas- these were also clean and welcoming and the staff- nurses and doctors- seemed well organised and attentive to both my son's needs and my own as his parent.

I liked the fact that the interviews included my son- rather than leaving him to listen to an adult to adult discussion.

From my perspective I also appreciated being able to follow my son into the anaesthetic room and we both loved the iPAD that was used to distract him.It really helped reduce the stress of this part of our journey. In fact I know he enjoyed it as he won't let it go!

It was great to have a locker to put my baggage in, and it was great to be offered a cup of tea whilst I waited for the surgery to be completed.

The nurse that discharged us really took the time to explain things to me and my son and I was grateful for the time she spent with us.

So all round a good experience for both of us.

Please extend our thanks to all the staff involved in this episode of care - it was first class
