For many years alcohol services in Warrington came under Secondary Care alongside psychiatric services, where I feel it was well placed.
In more recent years funding moved to ADS ( alcohol and drug services ) which whilst being an excellant service, access to such is not ideal.
For some reason, unknown to me, NHS Warrington altered services so that, I believe it is impossible for General Practioneers to prescribe Librium on a detox regime direct to patients.
The proceedure now is to see your GP, who then will refer you to ADS, where you may have to await a further appointment, for them to consider if the patient is suitable for home detox and then to contact the GP to prescribe such.
One of the main motivations of detoxing is to be able to do so when the motivation is timed right, which is impossible under the current situation and I do feel that this needs to be addressed again in the near future as NHS Warrington ceases to function.
