My 86 year old mother was flown from Oban to Paisley (RAH) last week to deal with a broken ankle. The operation was a success and the family were hugely thankful.
However we as a family are spread up and down the length of the country and as my mum was isolated, out of board area, it was important she received visitors. I travelled down from Aberdeen but was hugely disappointed with the very restricted visiting hours. 2.30-3.30pm and 7-8.30pm. There was no flexibility with this and on one occasion visitors were asked to remain outside Ward 23 for a further 10 minutes as 'they' (I assume the staff) were not ready for visitors, reducing the visit to 50 minutes.
I can only tell you of the sheer frustration this causes not only for family visiting but for an elderly isolated patient. When the majority of hospitals in Scotland have introduced flexible opening surely Paisley you have to catch up and consider changing this approach.
