We live on the Isle of Jura.
Two year ago my wife had an accident and cracked a tooth. She attended Islay Dental Practice and the then dentist, carried out a temporary repair stating that the tooth would require capping with root canal work first. After that visit the practice changed hands.
Almost a year went by and no contact was made by the practice. One would have thought having taken over, existing patients would have been contacted for their usual regular and follow up appointment. Therefore in the mid 2016 my wife contacted the practice for an appointment as the damaged tooth was giving some discomfort.
So an appointment was made and my wife was seen by the female dentist who stated that the tooth had to be removed. My wife explained that Mrs Formby stated that it required root canal work, but the female dentist doubted that there was enough to work with. Anyway, between then and the next appointment and some intensive internet research work about root canal, work was started.
A series of appointments followed, work was paid for up front, but also a series of cancelled appointments, which seems particularly problematic on the Isle of Jura.
A the end of October, the impression was taken for the cap and my wife was asked to phone the next day to check if work was done. However, before that date, she received a letter giving an appointment for two weeks after that. But three days before that appointment a message was left on our phone for my wife after, stating not to come in as work was not completed. There was no apology and no mention of a future appointment. Three days after the cancelled appointment my wife received a letter, dated two days previously, stating that my wife had failed to keep her last appointment and to contact the practice to make a new appointment. This was very annoying.
I phoned the practice on behalf of my wife and played a recording of the message. The receptionist apologised for the letter stating that they were not on duty on the day of the call and kept refusing to answer my question as to who left the message, also refusing to listen to it. The voice, though does sound very much to be the receptionist.
There have been many problems with Jura patients obtaining appointments, that our Community Council are looking into the matter.
To date no appointment for fitting has been received.
