"Avoid Todd Ward"

About: King's College Hospital (Denmark Hill)

My brother died on Todd Ward last year and at times received very questionable care. We cannot fault the doctors at all, who were all fantastic, particularly one of the Consultants. The palliative care team were also excellent. However the nursing staff were variable at best and actually the health care assistants were more caring and helpful than the qualified staff. Most staff nurses had very little empathy and did not like being asked questions. We will never return to Kings through choice.

Firstly, can I offer condolences on behalf of the trust for the loss of your brother last year.

Thank you too for taking the time to write to us which I know must be difficult after the loss of a family member.

Although is is good to hear that your brother received good care from our doctors and the palliative care team, I am sorry that you did not find that our nurses did not display the level of care and compassion that we would expect.

I will ensure that your comments are passed on to the ward manager and also to our Liver Matron.
