I received a recall from my first mammogram after completing treatment for breast cancer. It arrived by post on a Saturday morning and induced immediate panic. (Couldn't someone have taken a minute to give a bit of context?) Five miserable days later I attended Forth Valley Hospital. When the radiographer started to ask me details of my surgery I quickly realised that the information I had given at the original mammogram was not available to them. When I asked them about this they indicated that the information had not been scanned on to their system. The lack of this information had caused the recall. I then was taken for an ultrasound. I asked the Radiologist (I think that's what they were, there was no introduction) why I had been recalled. They said because the doctor who had requested the mammogram (my oncologist) had not told them that I had had surgery. I was speachless.
The Radiographer who did the first mammogram had taken copious notes about my surgery and made the point that the consultants who would check the film needed that information. My surgery was performed at FVRH. I think there needs to be a review of the system for recall of breast cancer patients.
